The Professional Division features a diverse curriculum designed to develop versatile dancers and provide valuable performing experience through four full-time training programs and a Summer Intensive. Programs vary in length and structure in order to meet the needs and educational objectives of every student.
The Ailey School’s Junior Division offers a diverse range of dance training classes and performance opportunities for students from beginner to pre-professional. Depending on age, students may enroll in the First Steps Program (for ages 3-6) or the Pre-Professional Program (for ages 7-17). Programs begin in September and run through May.
The Junior Division also offers creative movement class for children between the ages of 2 and 6. Children are encouraged to think creatively and listen attentively while they develop rhythmic awareness and learn the healthy habit of exercising at an early age.
The Ailey School's popular Summer Intensive offers students in two divisions the opportunity to study dance in the cultural center of the world -- New York City. A Junior Division is offered for students 12 to 15, and Professional Division is offered for students 16 to 25.
Professional Division dance classes are available on an open enrollment basis for dance students ages 16 and older and for dance professionals.
Ailey Extension also offers open classes for adults 16 and older. No prior dance experience is necessary. Classes for children between 2 and 3 years of age, and a Teen Extension course for students ages 12 to 17 are also available.
Note: Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, in-person open classes may not be available.
