Application Procedures
Professional Division (ages 17 to 25)
Students may audition for the Certificate Program, Scholarship Program, Independent Study and Summer Intensive Programs by submitting the following:
- an online application.
- a $20 application fee.
- an audition* - students may audition in person, OR by video.
In-Person Auditions: Auditions begin in January each year. Audition cities and dates are posted on our Auditions page.
*Video Auditions: Video auditions are accepted starting in November 2023. An audition Video Demonstration and instructions are posted on our Video Auditions page. Students should refer to that video for specifications on video requirements.
Deadline for submitting Video audition:
2024 Summer Intensive - March 1
2023-2024 Academic year - April 1
*Note: it is NOT necessary to submit a video audition if the applicant is attending an in-person audition. Students are not permitted to do both.
Ailey/Fordham BFA Admissions
BFA applicants please refer to the BFA admissions procedures, as they differ from the other Professional Division Programs.
Attire
Dancers should be dressed in neat, professional looking dance attire for their audition. Leotards of any color are acceptable. Leggings should convert to footless, so that students can be barefoot for the modern section of the audition. Students should wear ballet shoes for the ballet portion. Dancers should not wear shorts, leg warmers, skirts, t-shirts, or other loose-fitting clothing. Hair should be neat and pulled back away from the face and neck.
Application Procedures
Creative Movement (ages 3-6)
Auditions are not required for students ages 3-6. To begin the process of enrollment, please visit the First Steps and Bounding Boys Admissions page.
Pre-Professional Program (ages 7-17)
All new students are required to audition for acceptance in the Pre-Professional Program. Students should be dressed in ballet attire for the audition. Parents should be prepared to enroll and pay immediately after the audition (if accepted) to guarantee their child’s place in the program. Advance registration for the audition is strongly suggested, as auditions tend to fill up quickly.
Pre-Professional Scholarship Program (ages 15-17)
Acceptance to the Scholarship Program is by audition. Students must re-audition annually in order to maintain their Scholarship. Auditionees should be prepared to take ballet and modern classes. Please view the School dress code for appropriate audition attire. Scholarship support may be extended for as long as five years for those who enroll while still in high school.
Attire
Dancers should be dressed in neat, professional looking dance attire. Students should wear ballet shoes and tights that are convertible so you can be barefoot for the modern section of the audition. Hair should be neat and pulled back away from the face and neck.
Application Procedures
Summer Intensive
Acceptance to both the Professional Division (ages 16 and older) and Junior Division (ages 12 to 15) Summer Intensive is by in-person or video audition demonstrating proficiency in ballet and modern.
Auditions
Students may audition for the Junior Division and Professional Division Summer Intensive by submitting the following:
- an online application.
- a $20 application fee.
- an audition* - students may audition in person, OR by video.
- Junior Division students only must submit two dance photos in the following positions: First Arabesque & Tendu a la Seconde
