Nile Jamaal Baker

Metropolitan Opera; Indelible Dance

Nile Jamaal Baker was born in Glendale, California and moved to Detroit, MI at the age of 16 where he trained at the O'Day School of Dance and with Sergey Rayevskiy at the Academy of Russian Classical Ballet in Novi, MI. He attended Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  In 2007-2008 he attended The Ailey School Scholarship Program and graduated from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in 2011. 
Nile has danced with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet since 2011 in productions of Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, Madame Butterfly, Carmen, Prince Igor, Tannhauser, Les Contes d'Hoffmann, and Rusalka. He has been a member of Rebecca Kelly Ballet since 2012 and performs annually with the ensemble at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. He has danced with Vanessa Tamburi FLUSSO DANCE, Indelible Dance Company, Project 44, and Bradley Shelver Contemporary Dance Theater. He has performed in several dance festivals including REVERBdance, Moving Sounds, Brooklyn Dance, Battery Dance, Between the Seas, and IDACO NYC. Nile is an aspiring men's clothing designer and has designed costumes for Indelible Dance Company and for a work conceived by composer Drake Andersen.
