Mathis Joubert

Visceral Dance Chicago

Born in South Korea, Mathis Joubert grew up in France where, inspired by break dance videos on YouTube, he embarked upon his dance career.​ At the age of 16, Mathis began his ballet training at VM Ballet. He was subsequently offered a company position at the Jeune Ballet Européen and won first place for Get Up & fais ton truc, Best Talent Award at Amsterdam’s International Competition, second for Contemporary at Prix d'Europe and more recently, the first place at La Mia Storia di Danza Competiton organized by Capezio & Danza in Fiera, Italy. ​  ​

In 2016, Mathis moved to New York City to attend the Certificate Program at Peridance as a scholarship student.  He also attended the Scholarship Program at The Ailey School for two years. Mathis has received scholarships to attend summer intensives at National Ballet School of Marseille, Lines Ballet, Complexions, Jacob’s Pillow, Hubbard Street, Blueprint and Donald Byrd Workshop. ​

Mathis has had a varied performance career, dancing at the 25th anniversary gala of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, for the NYFW, Philadelphia Fashion Week, as well as Nick Cave's "The Let Go" at Park Avenue Armory in New York. In addition he danced for the Sultan D’Abu Dhabi’s private ceremony in Hollywood, at the Eden Fine Art Gallery for the visual artist "SN Arts", for the Cuban singer Yoyo Ibarra and in the videoclip "It Gets Better" sung by Fredrik Eklund.  He was invited to perform in France’s Got Talent and was invited to compete in the semifinals of DAS SuperTalent in Germany.​

Mathis has performed works by Christopher Huggin's, Ray Mercer, Jennifer Archibald, Brice Mousset, Bradley Shelver, Elisabeth Roxas, Arch Ballet, and B.S Movement. In 2019, Mathis he was offered company positions at BHdos, Spectrum Dance Theatre, Na Ni Chen Dance Company, Nimbus Dance Works, Catapult Dance, and several dance companies in Europe. ​ Mathis joined Visceral Dance Chicago for the 2019-2020 season. ​
