Ailey II

Tamia Strickland was born in Silver Spring, MD, where she began her dance training at the age of 6. In 2021 she received the Denise Jefferson Memorial Scholarship and performed a solo choreographed by Hope Boykin. Ms. Strickland performed in Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 2021 opening night gala at New York City Center in "Bird Lives," as well as the Company's virtual Spring Gala. She also performed "Hallelu," a duet choreographed by Freddie Moore, in Ailey's virtual Winter Season in 2020. Other choreographers she has worked with include Francesca Harper, Clifton Brown, Matthew Rushing, Janice Rosario, Chuck Wilt, and Sarah O’Gleby.  She is currently a company member in Ailey II.
