Julia Assue

Ballez

Julia Assue (they/them) is a non-binary dancer, and is a company member with Katy Pyle’s Ballez, where they are exploring radical retellings of ballet stories through a queer lens. Assue graduated summa cum laude from the Fordham/Ailey BFA program in 2022 with double majors in political science and dance. Jules has performed works by Katy Pyle, George Balanchine, Esme Boyce, Brice Mousset, Edgar Cortes, Natalie Lomonte, among others.
Jules grew up in Cross River, New York dancing at several local studios, then began their formal
conservatory training in 2014 at the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance. Throughout high school,
Assue trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and contemporary, and spent their summers at institutions
such as the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts, New York State Summer School of the Arts, and
the Bolshoi Ballet summer intensive. Assue is passionate about dismantling the dominant
narratives that define the dance world to instead center the unconventional, the underappreciated,
and the unheard voices and bodies whose art deserves recognition.
