with Linda Celeste Sims
Wednesday, May 10, 2023 | 6:00pm - 7:00pm EDT
In honor of the divine Ailey Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison's 80th birthday, Ailey Extension is celebrating Ms. Jamison's tireless advocacy for the arts through her tenacity, creativity, hope, and discipline.
Judith Jamison’s efforts in dance excellence are only a small part of her unparalleled contribution to the Ailey organization, dance world, and beyond. Ms. Jamison is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, among them a prime-time Emmy Award, an American Choreography Award, the Kennedy Center Honor, a National Medal of Arts, and she has been listed in “TIME 100: The World’s Most Influential People.”
Ms. Jamison continues to dedicate herself to asserting the prominence of the arts in our culture and she remains committed to promoting the significance of the Ailey legacy using dance as a medium for honoring the past, celebrating the present, and fearlessly reaching into the future.
During this workshop, students will learn excerpts of choreography from Ms. Jamison’s iconic role in Alvin Ailey’s Cry with former Ailey Dancer Linda Celeste Sims. Students of all levels are welcome to join us either online or in-person at Ailey.
