Ailey II in NYC
Thank You
Thank you for joining us for the return of Ailey II at Ailey Citigroup Theater. We can't wait to welcome you back soon.
There’s nothing like the thrill of discovering a new favorite artist or being the first to see new work by acclaimed choreographers. Ailey II gives you both: a company of 12 on their-way-to-the-top dancers and a repertory of works by outstanding talents fresh out of the rehearsal room.
After an 18-month hiatus, Ailey II is back with their “off-the-charts energy” (The New Yorker); new Artistic Director Francesca Harper at the helm; three new programs: Dichotomous, Pulse, and New Lens; and a special program honoring the 10th anniversary of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Robert Battle.
See why The New York Times says: “There’s nothing like an evening spent with Ailey II” when they return home to New York City for two weeks of performances at the Ailey Citigroup Theater. “Clearly the future is theirs.” -The New York Times
Dichotomous is an evening of works curated in the spirit of contrasting elements, and voices. From the mellifluous tone of Kathleen Battle’s voice to the powerful drums of Les Tambours du Bronx, this evening will encourage audiences to find inspiration and connections within works that at first glance seem to exist in different worlds.
New Lens is an evening that examines dance under a fresh and intimate lens. From the vigorous physicality of Andrea Miller, to the poetic Yannick Lebrun’s ode to French Guiana, to Francesca Harper’s elliptical galaxy, we get a deeper glance into some of the dance world's current Contemporary voices whose works embody bold, daring, and fresh perspectives.
From physicality that moves beyond its familiar limits, to insistent, complex rhythms, Pulse will leave audience members on the edge of both excitement and wonder. With works by Francesca Harper, William Forsythe, Robert Battle, and Andrea Miller, all artists known for taking chances, these works remind us to take risks and of the undeniable power that lives within us when we do.
