This virtual audition has passed.
The Ailey School is pleased to announce it first Virtual Audition for acceptance to our Professional Division Programs for the 2022-2023 School Year and the 2022 Summer Intensive.
The Virtual Audition will be held via Zoom on June 6, 2021 (time: to be determined) with Co-Director, Tracy Inman and ballet instructor Michela Boschetto.
A Virtual Horton Workshop will also be offered. This virtual workshop will introduce the foundational components of the Lester Horton Technique as taught at the Ailey School.
Audition Registration
In order to register for this audition, students must submit The Ailey School Audition form by email no later than June 1, 2021.
Audition is for acceptance to the following programs at The Ailey School:
Professional Division Programs
2022-2023 Academic year
Certificate Program – ages 17 to 23
Independent Study Program – ages 17 to 25
2022 Summer Intensive
Professional Division – ages 16 to 25
Junior Division – ages 11 to 15

Student Visa Instructions
Thank you for your interest in the full-time training programs at The Ailey School! As an international student, you must obtain an F-1 Student Visa if you plan to enroll for the 2022-2023 academic year. The Ailey School Director of Admissions will assist you with this process, as it is not possible to apply for an F-1 student visa without the assistance of The Ailey School. In order to apply for an F-1 visa at the U.S. Consulate in your home country you will need a form called the "I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 Nonimmigrant Student Status", which you can only obtain from The Ailey School Admissions Office after fulfilling the requirements listed below.
Getting Started
The process of obtaining an F-1 Student Visa can take several months. You will be required to obtain an I-20 Form from The Ailey School in order to apply for your visa at the U.S. consulate in your home country. The Director of Admissions will assist accepted students through this process. We recommend you begin the process immediately after being accepted to The Ailey School.
The final deadline to submit documentation for your I-20 form is May 1. Please submit the following items to The Ailey School Admissions Office by email admissions@alvinailey.org
- $50 International Student fee (one-time fee payable after you have been accepted)
- A copy of the identification page of your passport

The Ailey School Declaration of Finances form explaining your financial resources

Submit the required financial documentation demonstrating the ability to cover the costs of tuition, fees and living expenses for the first year of study.
(Please refer to the International Student Cost of Living Chart to see how much you need to document and what type of documentation is acceptable.)
NOTE: All financial documentation must be in English and must indicate the U.S. dollar equivalent of whatever type of currency is reflected in the documentation. Statements that are not in English will not be accepted.
Upon acceptance to The Ailey School
If you are accepted to The Ailey School for the 2022-2023 school year, the Admissions Officer will notify you by email and you will be sent further instructions on how to proceed with applying for your F-1 Student Visa.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are not accepted to The Ailey School, all of your personal financial documentation and passports will be destroyed. We do not keep this information on file for those students who are not accepted.
2022 Summer Intensive
Students participating in the Summer Intensive do not need to obtain a Student Visa UNLESS they plan to continue their enrollment in one of the full-time programs after the summer ends.
Virtual Horton Workshop
This workshop has passed and is no longer being offered.
Workshop Dates: Monday, July 12, 2022 - Friday, July 23, 2022
Online Curriculum:
This virtual workshop will introduce the foundational components of the Lester Horton Technique as taught at the Ailey School. The approach and understanding of these foundational skills—including development of beginning level vocabulary, stretching and strengthening the body, building alignment, and the artistic use of this knowledge—will be shared in this workshop.
Each class will consist of warm up exercises, center studies (fortifications, preludes, and coordination combinations) and class sequences. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of the history and framework of the Lester Horton technique and its integration to Alvin Ailey’s choreographic process and iconic works.
The online option is taught by The Ailey School Horton instructor, Lakey Evans-Peña. A total of 12 pre-recorded classes will be available to participants between Monday, July 12 - Friday, July 23, allowing students to take the workshop at their own pace. No audition is required.
The cost of the Virtual Horton Workshop is as follows:
If paid in full by 4:00pm on May 14, 2021: $210 (a $35 registration fee is waived)
If paid in full by 4:00pm on June 4, 2021: $245 (includes a $35 registration fee)
