Deaf Awareness Month Workshop with Samantha Figgins

In celebration of Deaf Awareness Month, Deaf and Hard of Hearing folks are invited to find home within their bodies and build community through movement with Ailey Company member and Deaf dancer Samantha Figgins.

Students will practice body and spatial awareness while exploring rhythmic patterns, non-verbal communication, and storytelling. With Samantha’s hands-on approach, dancers will have the opportunity to further discover and share their individual artistic expression and learn how dance has the power to enhance one’s everyday life into an enriching full-body experience.

This workshop is open to people of all hearing abilities. No dance experience is required to attend!

Ailey is dedicated to furthering access and inclusion for all dancers. This workshop will be interpreted by an on-site American Sign Language interpreter from our partners at SignNexus. Our online students will have access to closed captioning on Zoom in addition to a livestream of the interpreter and the class.
