Get to Know Ronald K.

Born in Washington, DC, Mr. Alexander started his formal training at 18, with Mike Malone and Peggy Copper at Workshop Careers in the Arts at George Washington University, and continued his training with David Shields at the David Shields School of Ballet in Boston, MA and with Billy Wilson at the Elma Lewis School of the Arts in Roxbury, Massachusetts, while attending Boston University on a full academic scholarship. In 1973, he received a scholarship to study ballet at the National Ballet School in Toronto.


He has performed with numerous ballet companies, including the National Ballet of Canada, the Iranian National Ballet, the Frankfurt and Hamburg Ballets in Germany, and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New York. He has taught dance and choreographed for Hamburg Ballet, Clark Center for the Performing Arts, The Ailey School, Dance Theatre of Harlem , Harlem School of the Arts, Lincoln Center for the Arts in Education, Boys and Girls Harbor, Ballet Hispanico, Lehman College, Marymount Manhattan College, LaGuardia Community College, Adelphi University, the Alpha-Omega Theatrical Dance Company, and the Nanette Bearden Dance Company in New York, the Quinte Ballet School, Ontario, Canada, and Ballet Academy Worcester.


From 1994-2003, Mr. Alexander was a New York City certified dance instructor with the New York City Department of Education. He has studied the American Ballet Theatre School Training Curriculum under Franco DeVita and Raymond Lukens, and the Vaganova Ballet Training Method under John White.


Mr. Alexander has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University and a certificate in School Administration, City College of New York. In May 2008, he was appointed Principal/Dean of Admissions at the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts in Torrington, Connecticut. While in Torrington, he choreographed Broadway Bound, A Chorus Line, and Titanic to critical acclaim at the Warner Theatre, one of New England's premiere community arts theaters.


In February 2011, Mr. Alexander featured in an article entitled ‘Five Teachers, Five Venues’ in Dance Teacher Magazine. In December 2011, he returned to New York and founded RKA Consultants. He has taught company classes for Ailey II, Ballet Hispanico, Philadanco, and the New York Theatre Ballet. He is currently on faculty at The Ailey School, Harlem School of the Arts, and the New York Theatre Ballet Schools.
