About the Conference
This exclusive two-week conference gives teachers, scholars, and professional dancers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the Horton technique, learn new teaching skills to train more versatile dancers, and connect with fellow dance instructors of all backgrounds.
Individual sessions include participatory Horton classes, observation of Horton classes at the prestigious Ailey School, Q&As with Ailey School instructors, Horton pedagogy studies with Ana Marie Forsythe, Anatomy & Kinesiology classes, and more!
Participants will have the opportunity to connect virtually with other dance instructors from around the world or join us in New York City at The Joan Weill Center for Dance, the largest building dedicated to dance in NYC and the home of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
The Ailey Extension Horton Teacher Conference is led by master teacher and scholar of the Horton vocabulary, Ana Marie Forsythe. Ana Marie Forsythe is co-author of “The Dance Technique of Lester Horton,” served for over four decades as the Chair of the Horton Department at The Ailey School, and was named Dance Teacher Magazine’s 2023 Awardee of Distinction. This year’s workshops will be assisted by former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater dancer and adjunct professor of modern dance at SUNY Purchase, Linda Celeste Sims.
