The role of the teaching assistant is to provide support and help maintain order in the class. All teaching assistants must be prompt for their classes, engaged, and demonstrate exercises clearly and accurately the entire class. Teaching assistants, assist in making correction under the instructor’s guidance, help with attendance, actively participate in class activities, and keep students on task and focused. A teaching assistant must work seamlessly with the instructor by anticipating his/her needs to help uphold a supportive and structured learning environment for students. Teaching assistants may also have opportunities throughout the year to either sub or conduct a portion of the class for the main instructor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Have a passion to work with children
- Ability to communicate with children and other instructors
- Must be energetic and have a positive attitude
- Understanding of customer service skills
DUTIES AND RESPONISIBILITES
- Arrive to class 15 minutes before your class time. Teachers utilize assistants to help prepare the studio and help line up the students before they enter the class.
- Sign in accurately and promptly according to the sign in rules and guideline in the Teaching Assistant Agreement.
- Serve in a professional and courteous manner.
- Be present at all dress rehearsals, parent observations, and performances.
- MUST adhere to the dress code listed in your agreement
- Help instructor maintain order in the studio.
- Have excellent attendance (90%) and reliability. In the event you must be out, you must find a sub for your classes and give one-week advance notice.
- Find out what the instructor’s needs are in advance and assist in planning class structure for that particular day.
- Stay alert, engaged, and positive throughout the entire class.
- Maintain energy of enthusiasm throughout the entire class
- Assist in making corrections upon the instructor’s request.
- Demonstrate clearly and accurately
- Learn student’s names and assist in keeping students focused and engaged.
- Active team player with other assistants.
- Keep instructor informed regarding underlying activity within the studio
EDUCATION/SKILLS
- Some College preferred
- Experience working with children
