Scholarship Fund

More than 300 scholarships are awarded each year to students ages 15 to 21, in order to ensure that the most talented students can attend The Ailey School regardless of economic ability.  More than 70% of the scholarship recipients are from minority groups. Students enrolled in The Ailey School’s Scholarship Program receive comprehensive technique classes, performance opportunities and support services that enable them to develop into versatile and expressive dancers, well prepared for the rigors of a professional career.

Perhaps the greatest testament to the success of The Ailey School’s training is that 86% of the current members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater are former students.  Graduates have also joined other renowned dance companies around the world and have appeared on Broadway, television and in film.

Many talented young dancers lack the financial resources to pursue the necessary specialized training. Financial burdens can force students to delay their study, slowing their artistic development or preventing them from pursuing a career in dance altogether.
