Noibis Licea is a native of Bayamo, Cuba. He graduated in the National School of the Arts in Havana and was trained in Modern Dance, Afro Cuban Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Acrobatics and Latin Rhythms. After graduating Mr Licea danced professionally with various companies throughout his country and had the opportunity to bring his knowledge to the students of the Vocational School of the Arts in Holguin Cuba, teaching them the basic principals of Modern Dance.
Mr. Licea has taught Afro-Cuban Dance classes/or workshops at the Silecian Dance Theatre in Poland, the Ailey School and Extension, Ballet Hispanico, Harlem School of the Arts, Capezio Peridance Center and Dance New Amsterdam (DNA). More recently Mr Licea performed in the 7th Annual Cuba-Caribe Dance Festival in San Francisco, Flint Hills International Children's Festival in Minnesota, Jacob's Pillow Festival, opening night of the Latino Cultural Festival in NYC, and last December Mr Licea Choreographed the first act of Babalu-Aye Ballet performed at Hostos Community College with “Oyu Oro” an Afro-Cuban Experimental Dance Ensemble.
In the summer of 2012 Mr. Licea taught Afro-Cuban Modern Dance in the Alvin Ailey Summer School Program and choreographed a piece for the Professional Division. Licea teaches every Tuesday evening in Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance, in Brooklyn Mr Licea holds a Master of Fine Arts in dance and choreography from Tisch School of the Arts ( NYU) and dances with the Nai Ni Chen Dance Company.
