Sheila Barker

Biography

Sheila Barker, (New York) began her dance training at The Harlem School of The Arts, with extensive training in Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Tap, and Musical Theater. After receiving her BFA in dance, she began to study the different styles of jazz and became an assistant to Frank Hatchett for many years. Sheila Barker is a multifaceted educator who has worked in all aspects of the dance industry throughout her longstanding career. As a much sought after Jazz teacher, she has traveled all over the world teaching in places such as Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Canada and Europe. Ms Barker accomplishments range from Broadway, Off-Broadway, music videos, industrials and soap operas as a performer and choreographer. Her versatility as an artist is evident in the way she trains her students with an impeccable sense of musicality, self expression and the ability to develop a sense of style. As an adjunct professor of jazz at Marymount Manhattan College and on faculty teaching jazz at Broadway Dance Center, Ms. Barker is one of the most well respected dance educators working today.
