Intern & Volunteer Positions

Ailey Spring 2016 Internship Opportunities

Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation, one of the world’s premier dance institutions, is now accepting resumes for the Summer 2016 Internship Program as part of our ongoing effort to offer rewarding internship opportunities to outstanding candidates. Please be aware that we are not able to provide a stipend, housing, or any other type of compensation; we do work with schools so that interns can receive academic credit and are able to take dance and fitness classes at the Ailey Extension at no charge. In the past, we have been able to offer experiences in Marketing, Development, Public Relations, Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, Finance, Information Technology, Production, and The Ailey Extension to high school, college and graduate student interns.

The mission of the Ailey organization is to further the pioneering work of Alvin Ailey by establishing an extended cultural community which provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people. As important as its artistic and educational mission, the Ailey organization plays a social role, using the beauty and humanity of the African-American heritage and other cultures to inspire and unite people of all races, ages and back grounds.

Recognized by U.S. Congressional Resolution as a vital American “Cultural Ambassador to the World,” Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater numbers 31 of the most extraordinary dancers, and its diverse repertory is unparalleled in modern dance. A typical season includes engagements in its home base of New York City: five weeks each winter at New York City Center and two weeks each spring at Lincoln Center, a 20-city United States tour and extensive international touring.

Headquartered in midtown Manhattan at The Joan Weill Center for Dance – New York’s largest building dedicated to dance – the organization has grown to include: Ailey II, a second company of emerging dancers and choreographers; The Ailey School, one of the globe’s most extensive training programs; Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, including curriculum-based initiatives in public schools and the AileyCamp summer programs for underserved youth; and The Ailey Extension, a program of open dance and fitness classes.  Annually, nearly 500,000 people experience Ailey performances and programs.
