Another Night

Kyle Abraham, one of the most in-demand young choreographers today, presents a richly inventive contemporary jazz piece that showcases the artistry and versatility of the Ailey dancers.  Another Night was inspired by the legendary drummer Art Blakey’s interpretation of the jazz classic “A Night In Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie.

Strange Humors

Equal parts comedic and combative, Artistic Director Robert Battle’s Strange Humors is an eccentric, jocular display for two dancers.  Composer John Mackey, with whom Battle is a frequent collaborator, provides a fiery score propelled by elements of African hand drumming and Middle Eastern folk music.

Petite Mort

Visual surprises abound in this tantalizing contemporary ballet, which blends a classical sensibility with a bold, modern wit.  The choreography includes six men, six women, and six fencing foils.

Revelations

Using African-American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs and holy blues, Alvin Ailey’s Revelations fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul.  More than just a popular dance work, it has become a cultural treasure, beloved by generations of fans.

The External Knot

A modern work that follows the journey of a young man who attempts to show a group of individuals that he does not need them and is sufficient on his own.

Takademe

The complex, tightly woven rhythms of Indian Kathak dance are deconstructed and abstracted in this percussive, fast-paced work.

One Forgotten Moment

Chicago native Malcolm Low, a 2012 New Directions Choreography Lab Fellow chosen by Robert Battle, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is a highly-regarded rising choreographic talent.

Divining

In 1984, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison created Divining, on a major company for the first time at the request of her mentor, Alvin Ailey.  The ritualized ballet is set to a score that incorporates North African, Central African and Latin rhythms.
