About Afro Cuban Modern Dance
Afro-Cuban Modern Dance is a dynamic fusion of North American Modern Dance (i,e Graham, Limon, Horton techniques), Ballet and traditional social and sacred Afro-Cuban dances and rhythms. The class consists of a challenging warm-up, with concentration on breathing and undulation exercises alone with across the floor and open dance combinations designed to work on dancers physical endurance, posture and artistry. The movement routines and internal rhythms introduced in class will require dancers to think more intently about space, time and musicality. The class takes students to a new, rarely seen dance form providing them with a new avenue for self-expression. Licea’s methods use the entire body as the initial focus, thus giving students a wider understanding of full body movement.
