"The title [of the ballet] is addressing the subtle currents that exist in the cerebrospinal column as the path to liberation, rather than the rush of outward force that moves into the afferent and efferent nerves, muscles and organs," explains choreographer Alonzo King.  "The title has hundreds of levels... We are participating in an exterior and an interior world. The rush and clamor of the exterior world is a spectacle that draws us out of our houses. It surges in an outward direction, and is dazzling, hypnotic and powerful. We ride life's boisterous waves and thrill at the crest of excitement and cringe at the thrashing bruising of the undertow of disappointment. When we tire of the exhausting and boisterous spectacle we find it is not so easy to get back home."

"Everything that exists in nature is seeking to return to its source. The child runs to its parents, and the river seeks the ocean. Salmon return from the sea battling rugged waters in a tremendous effort to reach their original spawning grounds. All courageous attempts will be met with opposition as you are 'going against the grain,' whether climbing a mountain or changing ingrained habits. On the mental level everyone is seeking joy or bliss. Regardless of the endeavor, bliss is the goal. No matter how failed or disappointing, the search goes on. On a metaphysical level all matter seeks to return to spirit."
