About The Corner
Description
Set to music by Donny Hathaway, Frederic Chopin, and rapper Common, Kyle Abraham’s The Corner blends contemporary hip-hop and post-modern movement with several nods to classical ballet, dramatically depicting an urban social interaction that recreates life on ‘the corner.’
Choreographer
Kyle Abraham began his dance training in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and continued his dance studies in New York, receiving a B.F.A. from SUNY Purchase and a M.F.A. from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Mr. Abraham has received tremendous accolades and awards for his dancing and choreography including Dance Magazine’s coveted “25 to Watch” in 2009 and a Princess Grace Award for his choreography. Most recently, Abraham was heralded by OUT Magazine as one of the “best and brightest creative talent to emerge in New York City in the age of Obama.” As a performer, Mr. Abraham has worked with David Dorfman Dance, Dance Alloy, and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. He also teaches his unique approach to post-modern dance throughout the United States. Mr. Abraham is the founder/director of Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion.
