Karen Gayle

Biography

Originally from Toronto, Karen began her training at the Claude Watson School for the Arts. While continuing her training at the Toronto Dance Theatre and the Randolph Dance Theatre, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Ryerson University. After moving to New York, she furthered her studies at The Ailey School.

Karen has worked with such companies as Earl Mosley’s Diversity in Dance, the Mantis Dance Project, Canboulay Dance Theatre, and had the honor of working with such choreographers as Ronald K. Brown, Earl Mosley and Tony winner Hinton Battle. Karen has taught at Ballet Hispanico, The Joffrey Ballet School, The School at Columbia University, Horace Mann, New Dance Group, Central Park Dance and is currently a faculty member at Steps on Broadway and Montclair State University. She has had the opportunity to guest teach and choreograph across the U.S. and abroad, including Canada, Mexico, Bolivia, Italy and Cyprus and recent commissions include: The Steps Repertory Ensemble, Steffi Nossen, and The Claude Watson Arts Program. As artistic director of the xodus dance collective, her choreography has been showcased at such venues as: The Ailey Citigroup Theater, Riverside Theater, American Dance Guild Festival, DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL, Movement Research at Judson Church, the Downtown Dance Festival and the Inside/Out Festival at Jacob’s Pillow.
